This one probably deserves another polish pass some day, but here’s what I got with the time I’ve been handed.
If I stayed home
despite the call
to sojourn in strange lands
Could you call that faith?
If honored guest
promised a dream
and I judged him a fool
Could you call that faith?
If I caved
to scoffers words
and refused to build the boat
Could you call that faith?
If I kept
my only son
off the mountain altar
Could you call that faith?
If at my time
and end drew near
I withhold my blessing
Could you call that faith?
If I hid not
a precious child
from tyrant’s fearful hand
Could you call that faith?
If I chose
to live in comfort
and let my people suffer
Could you call that faith?
If walls of sea
stayed my feet
and chariots fell upon
Could you call that faith?
If marching round
and making sound
seemed a foolish plan to me
Could you call that faith?
If agents sent
I turned away
and clung to profane idols
Could you call that faith?
If by faith
I do not give
the more the excellent of sacrifice
Where is my righteous witness?
If my faith cannot bear testimony
how, like Enoch, can I please God?
Now faith is
the substance of our heart’s longing
It makes tangible our hope
Now faith is
the evidence Christ is living
although he is not seen
To believe in only
that God is
is to accept the devil’s standard
To come to God
diligently seek
and trust He will reward
A new city, He prepares
To better country, He calls
If true faith it is
then from whence we came
never again return
If those who did not receive the promise walked
So must we
